Dear friends,

In recent weeks, through various channels, we have publicised a project involving the creation of a special interest group for the Order Neuroptera, which we have named Grupo Navás de Neuropterología. The project is getting a good reception, because it involves, for those interested in the subject, the possibility of using an already fully operational infrastructure (that of the Sociedad Entomológica Aragonesa) to facilitate progress in a part of entomology that still has great potential for growth.

The Grupo Navás de Neuropterología (from now on GNN) has as its goal the study of the world's fauna of Neuroptera, Raphidioptera and Megaloptera, with special attention to the Palaearctic, and is intended to coordinate and further the efforts of neuropterists by providing them with an editorial base, a means of communicating with one another and a vehicle for personal projection. The Group will incorporate anyone interested in the Order, whether professional or amateur.

The Sociedad Entomológica Aragonesa (SEA) has undertaken to set up an Internet mailing list for exchanges between members of the GNN, to publish their papers and notes in a section of its Boletín SEA and, if contributions reach a certain volume, to create a specific Neuropterology publication. A separate area will also be set aside for the Group on the SEA's website,

http://entomologia.rediris.es/sea/

Membership of the Group will be free of charge, and the only condition is membership of the SEA, on which you will find information attached.

Some of the projects we have in mind involve the creation of various online data bases: one that will include previous country checklists of Neuroptera, Raphidioptera and Megaloptera, one with illustrations (with a view to the identification of species) and one with distribution data. We would also like to be able to provide help for the projects of those members who apply for it.

We have started working on a specialised library: in fact, bibliographical donations have already started to come in (we would like to thank here all those authors who have already sent some of their publications), and we intend to buy some of the most important monographs on the group. This library will be at the disposal of the Group's members via a photocopy service.

Those of you interested in belonging to the GNN should fill in the attached form; alternatively, you can write either to the group's Coordinator (DANIGRU@santandersupernet.com) or the SEA's Secretary (amelic@retemail.es). Best regards to all of you, and we look forward to your participation.
