BIOGRAFÍAS         James Henry EMERTON                Nació en Salem (Massachusetts) el 31 de marzo de 1847, murió en Boston el 5 de diciembre de 1931. Desde muy pronto se interesó por las ciencias naturales y ya a la edad de quince años asistió al Instituto de Essex, donde fue acogido por famosos naturalistas. Excelente ponente, a los 22 años centró su trabajo en la reproducción de las plantas, los animales y especialmente los insectos. En 1873, se incorporó como asistente en el Museo y a partir de ese momento se embarcó en el estudio de las arañas, para el resto de su vida. En 1875, llega a Europa, donde frecuenta las Universidades de Leipzig y Jena lo que le da la oportunidad de conocer a eminentes aracnólogos de la época como: O. Pickard-Cambridge, E. Simon, L. Koch, Thorel y Ohlert.      A su regreso a los Estados Unidos, trabajó principalmente en los diferentes puestos que ocupó, a preparar los modelos de historia natural y a aportar a los profesores su colaboración desinteresada en sus libros.                Realizó varios viajes de estudio e investigación a las Indias Occidentales, los estados del sur, California, Canadá y la bahía de Hudson. Desde el punto de vista aracnológico estudió principalmente las arañas de los Estados Unidos y Canadá, publicando numerosas listas faunísticas y la descripción de un gran número de nuevas especies.             Su obra:           Emerton (J.H.)
