Nació en 1883 en Hackney, donde su padre ejerció la medicina, hizo
sus estudios en la "Merchant Taylor's School, y estudió zoología en el
Colegio Universitario de Londres, el 26 de octubre de 1905, comenzó como
asistente en el Museo Británico en el departamento de Mamíferos, pero
poco después se encargó de las colecciones de arácnidos y miriápodos.
Con el abundante material que tuvo a su disposición, trabajó
principalmente en Ácaros y también hizo algunos trabajos sobre las
Arañas de Australia, las islas del Océano Índico, India y de África.
Pero en 1927, su mala salud le obligó a abandonar el museo para ir a
Australia a un clima más seco, continuando sus estudios acarológicos en
la Universidad de Adelaida: en abril de 1930, aprovechando una mejoría
en su salud, quiso regresar a Inglaterra, pero murió el 4 de mayo, antes
de llegar a Colombo. |
