|
The Basque
region is home to the richest and most diverse troglobitic fauna of the
order Opiliones in westeen Europe, so far represented by three
Peltonychia spp. (Cladonychiidae), four Ischyropsalis spp.
(Ischyropsalididae) and Nemastomella sexmucronata (Nemastomatidae). The
new species Burnia spelaea gen. nov., sp. nov. is a minute, depigmented, eyeless,
long-legged nemastomatid which has been found in four caves, all of them
in the Montes de Triano, a limestone massif strongly altered by the
exploitation of currently depleted veins of iron. The oculate
troglobitic Nemastomella sexmucronata (Simon, 1913) from the limestone
massifs of Cantabria and western Biscay has a similar penis, other
somatic similarities and a close genetic relationship that together
justify its placement in the same genus, and thus is transferred to
Burnia, as Burnia sexmucronata comb. nov. |

El País Vasco alberga
la fauna troglobia más rica y diversa del orden Opiliones de Europa
occidental, representados hasta la fecha por tres Peltonychia
spp. (Cladonychiidae), cuatro Ischyropsalis spp.
(Ischyropsalididae) y Nemastomella sexmucronata (Nemastomatidae).
La especie nueve Burnia spelaea gen. nov., sp. nov. es un
nemastomátido diminuto, despigmentado, ciego y de patas largas que se ha
encontrado en cuatro cuevas, todas ellas excavadas en los Montes de
Triano, un macizo calizo fuertemente alterado por la explotación de
vetas de mineral de hierro actualmente agotadas. La especie troglobia,
aunque oculada, Nemastomella sexmucronata (Simon, 1913) de los
macizos calcáreos de Cantabria y oeste de Bizkaia tiene un pene y otras
características somáticas similares y una estrecha relación genética que
justifican su emplazamiento en el mismo género y es por tanto
transferida a Burnia, como Burnia sexmucronata comb.
